Description
Donnie Wahlberg, from the band New Kids On The Block (NKOTB)
With this artwork, I'm back to the singing aspect of Donnie's career. « Cover Girl » is one of the songs for which Donnie is the lead singer and well, it's quite an interesting performance
My challenge for this drawing was to draw small faces. Since it's something I've done only twice, I need practice and it's better to have a little fun when learning new stuff, isn't it?
The drawing is made from pictures taken by a fan at 2 different NKOTBSB (New Kids On The Block + Backstreet Boys) concerts in 2011 and she kindly let me use them.
Now, about the artwork:
graphite (Mars Lumograph), charcoal (Derwent) and a 8B watersoluble sketching pencil (Derwent) on watercolor hot pressed paper. (*)
Size of the paper: 30x40 cm
Size of the artwork: 28.5x38.5 cm
time to draw: 110 hours
Source: @Cuttersftbll on Twitter
(*) graphite is the main medium used in the drawing since it's what I used for Donnie. I used a little charcoal only in the darkest part of Donnie's pants in the biggest frame. The dark background was made using a 8B watersoluble sketching pencil. In the end, it shines just as graphite does when you orient the drawing but it has a much softer aspect as there isn't any little particle showing.
All the steps of the work in progress can be seen in full size at my website here: www.aurelia-art.com/index.php/…

Holy shit, this drawing is awesome! The composition is neat, and as for your drawing-small-faces-ability, I'll say you're pretty spot on. Very photo realistic!
On a totally different note, I've only seen Donne Wahlberg as the mellow, humble Sgt. Lipton, so it's kinda strange seeing the completely opposite "real" him...
